CHILDREN at Trinity Primary School celebrated the official opening of their £1 million classroom block, the latest in a raft of new developments, with a special guest last week.

Pupils were joined by the Bishop of Bath and Wells, the Somerset County Council team, and the Diocese of Bath and Wells – among others involved in the design and building of the facilities.

It marked the completion of two years of building work to expand and enhance the school. The Rt Rev Peter Hancock attended a celebratory service at Holy Trinity Church, which looked back at all the exciting changes for the school’s staff and pupils.

These changes include a £1 million four-classroom block and nursery, funded by Somerset County Council and a new PE hall.

A before and after school child care facility has also been separately funded by the Department for Education through the Bath and Wells Diocese and the school’s governing body.

The new classroom block has the capacity to provide an additional 120 pupil places, while the new pre-school has space for upto 32 places for two to four-yearolds.

Nigel Bright, headteacher at Holy Trinity CEVA Primary School, said: “Growing to a 14-class school and opening a nursery is an exciting time for the school as it builds on its successes and develops its provision for the community.

“We are very grateful to all those from the local authority, the Diocese, Hookways, Harris Brothers and Collard and our local community who have contributed and supported us in this endeavour.

“Their hard work has helped us to provide great opportunities for our current children and for generations to come.

“The service, as well as marking the end of one phase and the start of another, has been a way of thanking those involved. We look forward to the next phase of school life as we expand and make good use of these new facilities.”

The Rt Rev Peter Hancock, Bishop of Bath and Wells, added: “It’s a real joy to come to such a happy school. We met in the parish church of Holy Trinity and the children helped to lead the prayers and the hymns.

“It was a real celebration of everything that has been achieved in the recent months to provide such wonderful new facilities for this growing and successful school.”
