KING’S College, Taunton will continue as Somerset’s Academy Partner for 2015 after a renewal of the arrangement, which was signed last year, was recently announced.

Both Somerset County Cricket Club and King’s College, Taunton have been at the very heart of the community in Somerset’s County Town since the late 19th century and there are strong links between the two organisations on the field of play.

Jez Curwin the Head of Commercial Operations at Somerset said: “The continuation of our partnership with King’s College, Taunton is fantastic news for both parties.

“We worked on a number of successful initiatives together last year and it will be exciting to build on what is already a productive working relationship.”

Cricket has always been at the forefront of the school’s culture and traditions – and has also been designated as a Centre of Cricketing Excellence.

In recent years former pupils such as Jos Buttler, Alex Barrow, Craig Meschede and James Regan have gone on to represent Somerset County Cricket Club.

There is also a long list of former students who have played first class cricket in the past.

These include Roger Twose (ex-New Zealand Test and ODI cricketer), Richard Harden (Somerset and Yorkshire batsman), Nick Boulton (Somerset and Worcestershire and Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 1998) and Tom Webley (Somerset).

The school has also been awarded the status of being one of the first MCC Foundation Hubs, an initiative which will allow local young cricketers access to the outstanding coaching and facilities that King's can provide.
