FORMER professional musician Martyn Owen has been appointed deputy principal at Richard Huish College, Taunton.

Since changing careers, Mr Owen has worked in a variety of establishments, including schools and the further education sector.

He has served as director of music at RHC and as head of the faculty for arts and business and more recently as assistant principal.

He has written GCSE music courses, advises on A level development and has been an examiner for several exam boards.

He is vice-chairman of Arts Taunton, a member of the Taunton Deane Economic Development Board and on the South West Heritage Advisory Board.

Mr Owen said: “I am very much looking forward to being able to contribute to the future development of Richard Huish College and support the corporation in its future plans, ensuring that students are at the heart of our college and community.”

College principal John Abbott said: “Martyn is a highly respected educationalist who has worked tirelessly to ensure that Richard Huish College is at the forefront of the current A Level reforms.

“This appointment further enhances the college’s Senior Leadership Team and ensures that Huish continues to deliver high educational standards for its students.”
