THE plight of a nine-year-old boy diagnosed with brain cancer has prompted a localcommunity to rally round in a bid to help.

Cameron Spraggs, of Westonzoyland, was diagnosed with the tumour at the end of April and is being treated in Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

Family friends and neighbours are holding a Concert for Cameron on Saturday to raise money for the hospital and also for CLIC Sargent, the cancer charity which is supporting the family through the difficult time.

Marie Howe, one of the organisers, said: “The hospital is fantastic and the treatment Cameron is getting is amazing. And CLIC is pulling out all the stops to support the family. They have provided a flat for the family near the hospital to make it easier for them to visit, and are helping Gary and Becky, Cameron’s parents, with lots of practical help, allowing them to focus on Cameron.”

Cameron, a pupil at Westonzoyland Primary school, needs to undergo radiotherapy, physiotherapy and chemotherapy for at least a year. He is also currently unable to walk and has lost the use of his speech.

The event is at Bullhorn Farm, Bridgwater, and organiser hope it will boost their fundraising total by £3,000 to £5,000.

Marie said: “We have two bands playing on Saturday, as well as a bar, a free pig roast, a raffle and an auction with some amazing prizes and an open topped bus that will be picking people up from around Bridgwater.

“We also have some Minion themed things going on because Cameron loves them.”

She added: “The charity has been so supportive and as well as raising money we hope to raise awareness of the condition affecting Cameron and the incredible work CLIC Sargent does.”

Concert for Cameron costs £10 to get into and is being held from 7pm-midnight. It is being organised by Tracey Martin, Tim Martin, Jill Legg, Tracey Ford, Marie Howe and Greg Howe.
