ORGANISERS of Taunton’s Race for Life are appealing for more women to run alongside the 1,800-strong ‘pink army’ already signed up.

Participants at the event at Somerset College on Sunday, July 19, can cover either five or 10k to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

To take part, sign up at raceforlife.org or call 0300-1230770 by Friday, July 17.

Maxine Bateman, event manager for Race for Life in the South-West, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that so many women have entered Race for Life events in Taunton.

“But we still have places left so we are urging women to sign up as soon as possible.”

Last year 2,545 women took part in Race for Life in Taunton, raising £132,935 for Cancer Research UK – this year the charity hopes to hit £135,000.

Maxine added: “Race for Life is not competitive and it’s not about being fit or fast.

“You can walk, jog, or run around the course if you like - these events are all about the feel-good factor that comes from being part of the ‘pink army’ as thousands of women come together to defeat cancer.”

Women can boost their contribution to Cancer Research UK’s work by doing a ‘wardrobe work-out’ before their event – they can sort out and bag up quality clothes, books and accessories they no longer use and take them to the Donation Station.
