FRANKIE Toms is a cut above the rest when it comes to raising money for charity.

The nine year old, from Puriton, brushed aside the usual sponsored walks and yard sales.

Instead, Frankie combed the internet and came up with a hair raising fundraising idea.

She is donating 10 inches of her hair so it can be used to make a wig for children who have lost their own through cancer treatment.

In addition, Frankie is being sponsored – and has almost raised three times her original target of £350.

The youngster said: “I love looking at hair styles and the latest hair fashions on the internet.

“I came across a charity called The Little Princess Trust which uses real hair to make wigs for children who have lost theirs because they have cancer.

“I told my mum that I wanted to donate some of mine as I have a lot to spare.”

It costs around £350 to make just one wig, but Frankie has so far raised £850 and hopes to get over the £1000 mark.

Mum Lorraine said she was amazed when Frankie told her about the charity and how she planned to support it: “Frankie loves all things to do with hair styles and she was really moved to know children her age can lose their own hair because of treatments they are receiving for cancer.

“She has her hair trimmed but I can’t remember the last time she had it cut. It comes down to her waist. It is a big moment when any young girl has her long hair cut short, but Frankie is prepared for it.”

Frankie will go under the chop at the Cutting Room salon in Puriton on Saturday (June 27).

“I want to raise as much as I can so other children can get wigs because it must be awful not to have your own hair,” she added.
