CRICKETING legend Sir Garfield Sobers, one of the greatest all-rounders the games has ever seen, is holding coaching sessions at Taunton School on Monday, June 29.

As well as offering tips on techniques to students at the school, he will coach youngsters from local primary schools.

Assisting him will be Somerset captain and former England batsman Marcus Trescothick, head at cricket development at the school.

The two will also give a talk in the Old Library between 4pm and 5pm.

Sobers scored over 8,000 Test runs at an average of 57.78 and took over 200 wickets at an average of 34 for the West Indies.

He previously held the record for the highest score in a Test innings after hitting 365 against Pakistan.

He was equally adept as a spin or pace bowler.

He played in the famous tied Test against Australia in 1960 and hit six sixes in an over against Glamorgan’s Malcolm Nash when playing for Nottinghamshire.

He was knighted for services to cricket in 1975.
