PUPILS at a Bridgwater school will be able to become lost in literature thanks to funding to improve to their library.

Youngsters at Hamp Academy in Rhode Lane will be able to benefit from two grants totalling £1,000 grant from Hamp Friends of School Association and Bridgwater Town Council.

The school has already put the money to good use with new books and training for junior librarians to help get pupils involved and engaged in reading.

Jackie Hellier, school business manager, said: “We were very fortunate to have received a £500 grant this year from the Hamp Friends of School Association which was matched by Bridgwater Town Council, supported by local councillors Adrian Moore and John Turner.

“This has enabled us to invigorate our library with new books that are exciting to the children and which they have chosen.

“We have also trained junior librarians who are proud of the badges they wear, which has also come from the grant money.

“Through this, the children have been more enthusiastic and involved with reading and our library.”

Cllr Adrian Moore, ward member for Hamp added: “We were delighted to be able to match the £500 to help the academy improve their library facilities.

“Reading is a vital part of any education and it’s great that the pupils will be able to make use of all these new books.”
