THREE intrepid women who work at St Margaret's Somerset Hospice are embarking on a pedalling marathon next Thursday.

Helen Booth, assistant director of day care and therapies, Hilary McKegney, deputy director of patient services, and Janet Gillet, a senior medical officer, are dropping by the charity's 20 shops across the county.

Sponsorship from the 216-mile bike ride will go towards St Margaret's £2million New Build Appeal for a new inpatient ward at the Bishop's Hull hospice.

The three, who have been in training for three months, set off this morning from the newest shop in Wiveliscombe and plan to call in at the Taunton shop on Saturday afternoon before ending up at the hospice.

Helen said: "We're really excited about the ride, especially as we will be raising funds for the New Build Appeal.

"The support we are receiving is fantastic and we hope to raise in excess of £1,000."

The riders will be joined at various points on Saturday by colleagues and friends.
