POLICE stormed a property in Ilminster last week in their fight against drug dealing and users.

Neighbouring residents wel - comed the operation, comment ing online that they could “sleep easy” after officers and police dogs descended on a property on Listers Hill.

Officers discovered a stash of drugs, drug paraphernalia and cash at the address which was targeted with the help of the community.

Ilminster’s beat team led by PC Andy Stuart, assisted by officers from Chard and Crewkerne, executed a Misuse of Drugs Act warrant at the property on Friday.

A quantity of what is believed to be cannabis was seized as well as the cash and a male is helping police with their enquiries.

PC Stuart said: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank the community of Ilminster for their continued support in tackling the fight against drugs which brings so much harm, not only to our area, but to communities across Avon and Somerset and beyond.”

Town council and district councillor Val Keitch showed her appreciation of the local police teams for their hard work keeping on top of a problem which rarely rears its ugly head in Ilminster.

She said: “I would like to congratulate the police on clearly good intelligence and good execution of the drugs warrant.

“We need to keep these drugs off our streets; it is not a major problem in this town but that is in no small part due to the work of the police.

“This is a rare occurrence, we are not in the drug den of Europe but it needs to be dealt with when the problem arises.”
