A MALE night-time reveller has caused outrage after being caught on camera defecating in Chard town centre.
The man, apparently in his mid-twenties, was caught in the act by a CCTV camera at the Guildhall, and the disgusting three-minute video has been handed to police who describe it as a “new low for binge drink Britain”.
Local officers are appealing to members of the public if they recognise anyone in the images to get in touch.
The footage shows another male acting as a lookout while his friend pulls down his shorts and defecates on the pavement early on Monday, April 20.
The young man had been out in Chard when he committed the shameful act in Howards Row, and his face can be seen clearly at the start of the three-minute video.
PC Thomas, from Chard Police Station, said: “I could not believe what I saw when I viewed the CCTV. I have seen pretty disgusting things during my career but this is right at the top.
“This was left for someone else to find and clean up.
There is no excuse for this behaviour in Chard.”
Ed Ringwood is Chard Town Council’s operations manager, who heads the team responsible for keeping the town clean and tidy.
He told The News: “We have a caretaker who comes in early and when he came into work on the Monday morning, it was there greeting him on the steps.
“His first task of the week was to go and deal with it, wash it down, and disinfect it. It’s a bit disgusting and not nice for him to have to do that.
“The lad has gone down the steps at the back of the Guildhall, done his business and gone on.”
If you can identify either male in the picture, call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
