BUSINESS managers and security staff are to receive training on how to react in the event of a terrorist attack in Taunton.

It is the first time sessions on combating terror have been held in Taunton since 2012, when the Olympic Torch came to the town.

The free events in central Taunton next week are being organised by Somerset Businesses Against Crime.

Project Argus on Tuesday, April 28, will show businesses how to prepare for an attack, including tips on prevention measures.

The following day’s Project Griffin involves a briefing on the threats out there and what to do in the event of an incident.

Scheme co-ordinator Andy Sharman said: “Taunton is as vulnerable as anywhere else.

“The terror threat remains and has changed dramatically since the last time we offered this training in 2012, with the rise of Islamic State and home grown extremists.

“By being prepared, we can hopefully prevent our communities from witnessing such atrocities, and this event will go a long way towards that.”
