STUDENTS from Taunton’s Richard Huish College were crowned national champions across a variety of sports, recently.

More than 30 students qualified for the 2015 Association of Colleges National Championships, held in Bath in March.

The college’s sport maker Tim Legg said: “It was a fantastic event that our students can learn a great deal from and many will be back, next year, to rise to the challenge once more.”

The teenagers competed in six different sports and table tennis was the most successful sport, with Huish students performing a clean sweep in the two categories they entered.

In the women’s doubles Danni Cross-Henley and Imogen Setter improved on last year’s silver medal by taking gold without dropping a single game.

The mixed pairs were just as successful, with Clare Sykes and Michael Maxwell winning gold and remaining unbeaten.

Huish students also picked up several swimming and trampolining medals.

Georgia Ardren won gold in the 100m backstroke and silver in the 50m backstroke, while Sunny Sharp won bronze in trampolining and has been selected for Team GB. Huish also finished highly in the cross country and women’s hockey competition.

Overall, the South-West region won the championships and retained the coveted Wilkinson Sword.
