GREEN-FINGERED youngsters in Bridgwater are being given a gardening challenge to help raise money for a national charity.

Bibic is asking children to grow the ‘fattest sunflower face’ to help raise funds for the charity.

Mary Matthews, fundraising and PR manager for bibic, said: “Last year we ran a competition for children to grow the ‘smiliest’ plants around and it was so popular that we have decided to run it again.”

Children will be challenged to grow the sunflowers using seeds which have been bred to produce ‘larger heads’ with those taking part asked to donate £1 when buying their packet of seeds.

Mary added: “In September, children will be asked to measure their sunflower across the middle of its ‘face’, excluding petals. We would then like them to take a photo of their sunflower and complete the entry form.”

Seed packets are available from virtual garden centre www.potterandrest.co.uk or via http://bit.ly/1gyVsGO with the winners receiving a voucher for the centre.

An entry form can also be downloaded at bit.ly/1Caz0As and entries must be submitted by September 30 to hello@potterandrest.co.uk with a photo of the sunflower attached to the email.
