THERE was an evening of glitz and glamour at the weekend as over a hundred people attended a ball organised by Burnham charity In Charley’s Memory.

The event at the Grand Pier in Weston was hailed as a huge success by organisers with all funds raised going to the newly registered charity.

Barli Wicks, event co-ordinator for In Charley’s Memory, said: “It was absolutely amazing. “The evening went so well.

“Everyone enjoyed the food, then we had a few great speeches from members of the charity – some had people laughing while others had people close to tears.

“And then the band had everyone up and dancing for the rest of what was a great night.”

The Good Friday Ball was the charity’s first event as a registered organisation seven months after it formed with Barli hoping that they can go from strength to strength.

She said: “Obviously now we’re a registered charity we can do so much more in terms of fundraising.

The ball was our most ambitious event yet and being in another allocation other than Burnham presented a few challenges in terms of promoting it but the turnout was really good and hopefully now we can push on.”

The charity was created in September last year in memory of Burnham teenager Charley Marks.

The group now aims to offer support to young people with mental illness and their families
