A UFO or something else?

STRANGE lights in the night sky have prompted readers of the Somerset County Gazette to question the existence of UFOs.

At about 10pm on Monday night, sightings of a strange glow in the sky was reported by Fay Boyd of Kingston St Mary, Richard Fowle of Cheddon Road in Taunton, and his son Edward.

Mrs Boyd told the County Gazette: "There was a long vertical light, it was not a star but I have no explanation for it.

"As far as I can tell it didn't stay there very long, I don't normally believe in the paranormal but it was very strange."

for the full story, see this week's County Gazette.

This fascinating occurrence could be the rare phenomenon known as the Zodiacal Light, a ghostly cone of illumination caused by the reflection of the Sun’s light from millions of tiny particles in the plane of the Earth’s, and Venus’ orbits. It’s visible just after twilight, a vast faint triangular glow rising from Venus upward into the constellation of Aries. If it is the Zodiacal Light it’ll be visible until about March 20 towards the west.

Who writes this stuff? A UFO by definition is just an unidentified object in the sky! This is a facinating siting which doesnt require our being visited by aliens...I'd ask an astronomer before jumping to any paranormal conclusions?

This phenomenon seems to be what is called a light pillar. Basically you are seeing the reflection of a far off light by ice crystals in the sky.

See http://www.atoptics.co.uk/halo/lpil.htm

It looks like a light pillar ..and what is even more supportive to this hypothesis is that if you see very carefully the big photo of the phenomenon you can see very fade secondary idols …which is typical for the light pillars

I saw this just after 10pm. We'd just finished playing footy at Castle School. I would say it was more to the north than to the west. We came to the conculsion that the core was melting at Hinkley as it appeared to be coming from exactly that direction. We ran screaming and crying to the Race Horse for shelter.

I found this article very interesting, and coiincidently on sunday night at 8:00 est. in ontario canada we had a mass sighting of almost the same thing except it was moving and preceded by an greyish object emitting this bright blue tail (like the picture seen above)

Thanks for the picture. I saw this too and called for others to look. I tried to take a snap too but it was fading. A Light pillar? I agree that's what it was BUT this was a very mild night, around 10-11 degrees so no chance of ice. It appeared to be a mile or so away, no higher than a couple of hundred feet in the sky, and about a eighty feet tall. I'd estimate it having a diameter of a few feet. It remained stationary until it faded.

I don't know if you all have seen this article: http://www.theargus.co.uk/display.var.1256729.0.0.php
Its news in the states that Masonic self confessed satanist (the times) Tony Blair had authorised the flying into gatwick of CIA rendition flights which also brought 'MKUltra' mind control microwave technology, used in brighton, by sussex police to calm crowds and night clubbers from getting to rowdy, also brought in several other types of technology, some of which have been seen flying over Hove Brighton , and the Masonic satanist cult home town of summerset, the masonic satanist cult ofen meets up with there american cousins 'skull and bones' at builderburger confrences, members include among others
(satanist and grandson of nazi financier prescott bush) G.W.Bush, sussex has also been a breeding ground for experimentation for many years and has an extreemly high suicide rating as a result, experiments being carried out such as the release of viruses to see how far bio weapons would spread (has resulted in many deaths of elderly people) and usually acompanied by stand in Drs (the snake symbol of the NHS is a satanic masonic symbol), and contrails released by planes that release an unknown substance containing no less than seven different types of cancer in to the atmosphere - have all been brought over from the USA, in joint US - UK projects, It seems the needs of the few outway the needs of the many in this monetary society that will only breed greed to rise to the top - and greed knows no bounds, Don't hate them for this its pointless, after all tony and bush do have a great sense of humor. just try learn a little about the world instead ;), in a culture based on money there will always be this kind of thing happening.

It looks to me like the geode has been blown out, most likly in a thunderstorm, causing rainbows to turn into rainblobs and have other atmospheric effects, interestingly I have observed nasa footage of this happening acompanied by UFOs, pehaps blowing out the geodes will have adverse effects on atmosphere and gravity, I dread to think of the effects on humans and animals, could be disasterous.

It can't be ice crystals, I'm no astronomer but after some brief internet research I understand they can only appear shortly after or during sunset, the sun had set over 3 hours prior to me seeing this. Also, a search for images of "zodiacal light" on a search engine returns 2430 results, having scanned the first 200, none look anything like what we saw (we saw exactly as pictured at top of this article) and all occur on the horizon. This was at about 45deg above the horizon. If trying to identify what this was please note that the orange glow is light pollution from nearby towns and is not the glow of sunset.

We've noticed for a while a bright light that sits in the sky. It is not a star! Whatever it is, it seems to appear shortly after dark (7-8pm) and remains until (10-11 pm). Sometimes the light goes dim, but most of the time the light remains bright. The light is stationary.

I would llke to know if anyone else has seen this light hoovering over any of the following New Jersey areas: Franklin Park; New Brunswick; Somerset; Highland Park; Piscataway or any other surrounding areas.

I will check this posting for responses.

Thanks

jahnet

This could well be the acent of the Holy Leprechaun of Kilarney Glades, or even a will-o-the-wisp. No-one really knows for sure, begorra, or if they do, they are keeping it to themselves.

I saw a ufo on the blackdown hills range in Taunton in 1997, it was like a ray of lights (sundial shape) moving, was there for 10 mins and gone. There was one witness to this plus myself.

Earlier this year we saw a light is the east immediately over triscombe quarry - it stayed for 2 hours and 40 minutes from when we seen it and hovered tho had a pendulum swing sometimes and then moved straight up. a small red light which i thought was flying towards it - helicopter or whatever actually seemed to be coming out of it/away from it. anyone know what this was? triscombe quarry slid for a week after this so you will get approx date from that - kept us all awake for ages!! i doubt it was ET visiting but it was odd and having seen this horizon for a decade unexplainable. we are on the flight path but they usually well, fly : ) did text all my family and friends at the time as wanted to know who else seen it but don't know if anyone kept text - the light got very bright suddenly then disappeared. i've been shutting my blinds every night since lol.
