FOXES Academy, the specialist college and training hotel for young adults with learning disabilities, held an Open Day on March 21.
The Open Day ran from 11am to 2.30pm and included a tour of the hotel to see the housekeeping team preparing bedrooms, finishing with a complimentary buffet lunch prepared and served by Foxes’ learners. More than 60 people attended.
The families of young people with learning disabilities came from as far away as London just for the day.
Some even took advantage of a weekend break in Minehead and spent the night staying at Foxes Hotel.
Lorraine Atkins, transition manager said: “The Open Day is a chance for families to experience first-hand how training in a real hotel enables young people with learning disabilities to gain independent living and work skills, so that they are able to find employment when they leave us.
“It is also an opportunity for our learners to demonstrate their excellence in food preparation, housekeeping and food service within Foxes Hotel. We are always open for lunch or afternoon tea if local people wish to sample our heartfelt hospitality.”
