A FORMER Richard Huish College student is celebrating after winning a prestigious Somerset apprentice of the year award.

Rebecca Bailey, aged 21, won Higher Level Apprentice of the Year in the 'Grow Somerset Talent’ Somerset Apprentice Awards after helping Taunton-based Acorn Solicitors achieve 100% growth in the past three years.

Acorn were also shortlisted in the Micro Employer of the Year Award category.

Rebecca said: “I am absolutely delighted. Acorn Solicitors has encouraged me all the way along and have given me the opportunities to develop and try new areas.”

Rebecca started out doing a Level 3 Business and Administration apprenticeship and has now moved on to study for her Level 5 Diploma in Management while also working as Acorn's assistant office manager.

She is now mentoring the firm’s new apprentice. Now they plan to take on more and more apprentices from local schools.

Senior partner David Sinclair, said: “Rebecca has been an amazing success and has helped in our growth.

“She has a fantastic career ahead of her. I am very proud of all our apprentices.”

The awards seek to acknowledge the achievements of exceptional apprentices and of the businesses who have helped to nurture apprentices.
