TOP Somerset cricketers officially opened a new dining venue in Ilminster.
The Retreat is a brasserie and wine bar in North Street overlooking Market Square in the town centre.
Ilminster M a y o r Emma Jane Taylor attended the official opening alongside Somerset County Cricket Club players including Marcus Trescothick and Alfonso Thomas.
Special guests turned out in force to enjoy a candlelit launch soiree featuring acoustic music from West Country singer-songwriter Nathan Ball.
Marcus Trescothick, who officially opened the venue, said: “This has to be one of Somerset’s hidden treasures – the food is great and the atmosphere is something special, so The Retreat will certainly be at the top of my list of places to eat in the county.”
The brasserie opens 8am until late and offers a lunch and evening menu, brunch, cream tea and Sunday roast at the weekend.
Behind the venture are Sara Magee and Alana Marie Chalmers, who have hospitality and international brand-building backgrounds.
The brasserie offers locally-sourced and home-made British produce.
