SEDGEMOOR went Comic Relief crazy at the weekend with loads of events which saw people of all ages raising money for the national charity.

Red noses were worn by many, while there were funny wigs and glasses as children went to school in non-uniform.

Pubs, clubs, offices and workplaces did their bit for Comic Relief as well, while the Great British Bake Off came to Bridgwater and a cooking competition in the style of the TV show at the Rosary Nursing Home.

Staff and residents at the home, owned by Sanctuary Care, got out the mixing bowls to create some yummy cake treats.

“I had a marvellous afternoon,” said resident Jean Sims. “I enjoyed stirring the mixture and watching all my fellow residents getting stuck in.

“Everyone was laughing and having a good time. I really enjoyed taking part and supporting Comic Relief.”

THERE was brisk business at the cake stall Westonzoyland Primary and Pre-School on Friday.

Sanctuary Care’s assistant chef, Caroline Schiffer, added: “All the residents were having a lovely time laughing and all joined in with each other. I was genuinely impressed with the decorated cakes – well done to everyone who took part!”

The winners were care assistants Susan Roberts and Trish Ford with the delicious masterpiece, What A Hoot.

“It was fantastic to take part in the Rosary’s bake off for Red Nose Day and I hope all the residents enjoyed eating mine and Susan’s cake,” she said.

THE Westonzoyland-based Tiptoes Childminding group raised £160 for Comic Relief with a sponsored silence and a “guess the celebrity mugshot” game. Comic Relief day on Friday was also pyjama day for the group so the children could go all dressed ready for bed!

PLAYING tennis wearing red noses was just one way pupils at Mark First School raised money on Friday for Comic Relief. Children were able to wear non-uniform with a red theme while there was also facepainting for pupils to enjoy.

PROFESSIONAL BMX rider Matti Hemmings was at Kingsmoor Primary School in Bawdrip to help raise money for Comic Relief. He demonstrated some tricks before some of the pupils had a go as well – with helmets and red noses the all-essential headwear! Pictured above are pupils with Matti (centre).
