POPULAR band Retro have mixed emotions getting together for their first gig of the year.

The group will be minus their much loved trumpet player, Nigel Aisthorpe, who sadly lost his battle with cancer last November.

As a special tribute, the band has decided to play a free concert in aid of St Margaret’s Hospice in Taunton where Nigel was cared for.

Keyboard player Colin Heath said the fundraising night at The Malt Shovel in Bridgwater will honour the talented and popular trumpet player.

“Nigel not only played superbly, he also organised our bookings and looked after us all,” explained Colin.

“He was a real gentleman who bravely fought his illness with a great spirit. “We all miss him terribly, as do his many, many fans.

“We want the fundraising night to be one where he is remembered and which will raise money for St Margaret’s which does fantastic work.”

The gig on Saturday, March 14, will feature a new drummer – Steve Wills.

Other band members include bass player Andy Burston, lead guitarist Nigel Baker, sax player Derek Cole and vocalist Pam Moat.

Colin added: “Entry on the night is free and there will be a collection and raffle in aid of St. Margaret's Hospice.

“All the prizes have been donated by local businesses for which we are very grateful.

“In the near future we will also be raffling a Mulberry handbag kindly donated by the Bridgwater factory and proceeds from that will also go to St Margaret’s Hospice.”
