KIND-HEARTED staff and regulars at a Bridgwater pub have joined forces to repair damage done to a single mum’s home during a vandal attack.

Helen Hibbert’s home in Edward Street, Bridgwater, was wrecked during the attack last weekend with wallpaper torn down, laminate flooring ripped up and furniture smashed.

The damage was so bad that Helen and her four children couldn’t live there.

But Stephanie Mee, Helen’s best friend and owner of the Duke pub in High Street, decided to help out and her staff and regulars rose to the challenge.

Speaking to the Mercury, Stephanie said: “What’s happened is horrendous.

“They’ve absolutely destroyed the place and I just wanted to do whatever I could to help out.

“I mentioned it to the staff and a few of the locals and they jumped at the chance.”

Through social media Stephanie asked people and businesses in Bridgwater for furniture and household equipment to donate and the 25-yearold landlord said she couldn’t imagine how quickly the community responded.

She said: “It was unbelievable – the people in Bridgwater have been fantastic.

“Within a few hours we had so many people coming forward to offer things.

“We’ve had two double beds donated from Bickley Castle and Somerset Beds have donated too.

We’ve had someone offer a brand new TV and Falcon van hire have loaned us a van to transport everything.

“It really has been amazing.”

Helen and her children aged 13, ten, five and three, have had to find temporary accommodation while staff and customers from the Duke repair the damage, redecorate and install the donated furniture.

A clearly emotional Helen said: “I can’t believe it.

“I just don’t know what to say – I’m completely overwhelmed with it all.

“I can’t thank them enough.”
