A FED-UP couple living near Taunton School say they have had enough of school traffic speeding along the road near one of the school entrances.

Craig and Rachel Brittain, who live in College Road, fear that a serious accident will happen one day.

The road is private, and has an entrance to the school, meaning parents and staff can use it.

But the couple claim traffic using the road is causing them chaos and they are appealing to drivers to be more considerate.

Rachel said: “From around 8- 8.30am, the road is a nightmare for us.

“Sometimes we struggle to get out of our drive because of the amount of traffic. “People use it as a rat run – there’s always a daily drama.

“My 17-year-old was knocked off his bike last year and my car has been damaged because of huge potholes in the road from the amount of traffic.

“It’s not very pleasant for the people living along here.”

Craig says a vehicle going into the school on Monday night sped through the gates in his direction, knocking his wing mirror off.

He added: “I have made several complaints directly to the school recently about the use of College Road by school traffic.

“The excessive speed and high volumes of traffic is an accident waiting to happen.

“I am very angry and upset.”

A spokesperson for Taunton School said: “College Road is an unadopted private road and as such is accessible to the public in general in addition to members of the Taunton School community.

“The School takes all Health and Safety concerns very seriously and we regularly urge drivers accessing the School site to take the utmost caution.

“Unfortunately, extensive and long-term roadworks in Staplegrove Road will inevitably increase flow of traffic.”
