THE over 65s and men are leading a surge in cosmetic surgery in Taunton, according to Nuffield Health.

A total of 67% of Nuffield surgeons in the South-West report an increase in older people seeking surgery, an increase of 49% over seven years.

And 83% of Nuffield surgeons in the region report a rise in men having work done on their noses, eyelid lifts and man boob removal.

And all the surgeons in Somerset and the rest of the West said they had seen more previously obese or overweight people going under the knife following weight loss.

Andrew Watts, consultant plastic surgeon at Nuffield Health Taunton Hospital, said: “I’m now seeing many more people in their 60s, 70s and even their 80s seeking plastic surgery as they not only want to remain fit and healthy into their old age but they want to look well too.

“I think this trend will continue as this is an expanding age group.

“They aren’t usually looking for radical work, sometimes abdominal re-contouring or face-rejuvenation, and providing they are fit and healthy, we can use new techniques and technologies which are ideally suited to them.”
