THERE were plenty of smiles at East Brent last week when new play equipment was unveiled.

The groundworks to install a small rocking roundabout and toddler springer in Orchard Close play area began in early January.

As well as the new roundabout and springer, two of the existing four swings have been replaced with cradle seats so toddlers can enjoy them. The new equipment has been set into mulch safety surfacing.

Sedgemoor District Council’s parks officer, Scott Mason, said: “This project is designed to ensure the park offers a wide range of play opportunities for a broad age range of children.

“Older children will still have two swings to enjoy as well as a new roundabout which doesn’t just spin but rocks as well.

“Toddlers and juniors will now be able to use the park for the new springer, roundabout and cradle swings.

“We hope children enjoy using these new items of play equipment.”

Chairman of Sedgemoor District Council, Cllr Peter Downing, was joined by local councillors and members of the community at the official opening.

The project has cost £4,400 and been funded by RLT2 Developer Contributions for Play which are held by Sedgemoor District Council.
