SOMERSET County Council has launched a project offering free advice and support to small care and support services in the county in a bid to give people more choice.

The two-year project, commissioned by Somerset County Council and managed by Community Catalysts, will offer information, advice, and support to local people who wish to set up small creative groups or services.

Cllr William Wallace (pictured), Cabinet Member for Adults Services at Somerset County Council, said: “This is an exciting project that will create more small care and support providers in Somerset.

“We want people to have more control over their care and we are encouraging people to have their care payments direct so they can purchase the services they want.

“But we recognise that this will only work if there is a range of different, creative and non-traditional services available in their local area.”

Rhys Davies, project co-ordinator at Community Catalysts added: “I am really excited about the potential of this project for Somerset.

“It is great to meet passionate local people who know what services are needed and have the drive to make it happen and make real difference in their communities”
