STUDENTS at Robert Blake Science College in Bridgwater were put through their paces, above, on an Army Outreach Team activity session.

The group of Year 9 and 10 students took part in the gruelling challenge, which aimed to improve their communication, leadership and teamwork skills, and saw them tackle five different ‘command tasks’ in teams.

Each team was given 20-25 minutes to carry out each task by using their teamwork and problem solving abilities.

Activities included ‘five tyres’, which involved teams moving five numbered tyres from one end of a course to another.

The tyres had to be stacked in a certain order at the end of the task with the higher numbered tyres under the lower ones.

Another task was ‘the minefield’, which involved teams using ammunition boxes as stepping stones through a ‘minefield’.

The aim was to get all the team members and all the ammunition boxes to the end of the course without touching the ‘mines’ or the floor.

A Blake spokesman said: “This fun practical session really tested the skills and ingenuity of the pupils while taking part in a variety of activities.

“In response, the students displayed a positive attitude and bags of effort, and were a credit to themselves and the school.”
