A COMMUNITY-MINDED mum is beginning 2015 in familiar fashion by attempting to raise yet more money for charity.

Debbie Shingler, of Ashcott, has raised around £9,000 for various charities since 2007 and is hoping to add to that total this year with a charity fun day in May.

Debbie, who regularly holds events at the Ring o’ Bells pub in Ashcott, will be raising money for the Somerset Air ambulance, DEBRA and the Dorothy House Hospice.

She said: “I’ve organised a few fundraisers in the past to raise money for DEBRA and the Ring o’ Bells pub is always the first to offer us the space.

“I’m hoping there’ll be plenty of people who can hold carnival booths, facepainting and other activities. “Everything we raise will go to charity."

Debbie has already had people coming forward to offer their services for what she feels are very worthy causes.

“Villages like Ashcott rely heavily on the air ambulance in emergencies and the Dorothy House Hospice in Frome does great work supporting people with terminal illnesses, including my dad who has esophageal cancer," she said.

“DEBRA also does great work with people with rare skin diseases.

“I’ve already had AKL Beauty Therapy in Bridgwater offer to come along and do face painting and nails and they will be donating all profits to charity.”

Debbie is hoping to hear from more people who can help with the charity event during which the mum-of-two will also be having her head shaved in an attempt to raise as much as possible.

“If anyone would like to donate a wig to me after the sponsored headshave I’d be very grateful,” Debbie joked.

“If anyone wishes to hold a carnival booth or to volunteer their services please do contact me.”

The event is due to be held on Sunday, May 31, at the Ring o’ Bells in Ashcott.
