A NUMBER of issues with Taunton Pool following its £1.2million revamp are “not out of the ordinary”, according to Taunton Deane Council.

Opposition councillor Alan Wedderkopp claims there were problems with filters and valves that supply warm clean water to the pool, while since the Christmas period the changing room showers have been malfunctioning.

Mr Wedderkopp is also unhappy there are no fresh drinking water fountains in the pool and changing areas A council spokeswoman said there are no contractual disputes with the contractors, who fixed the boiler pump valves and are working to resolve “varying issues with the mechanics for the showers”.

She added: “As with all large construction projects, once the programme is complete, there will be issues and items that need to be looked at, especially once the building becomes fully operational.

“This is to be expected and is not out of the ordinary.”

The spokeswoman said a water fountain should be installed in early April following customer feedback.

Taunton Pool was officially re-opened following its refurbishment by Olympic swimmer Mark Foster.

A new pool being built at the Blackbrook Pavilion will replace the outdated facility in St James Street.
