CUSTOMERS will be able to access post office services in the evening seven days a week when the current facility in Station Road, Taunton, relocates 50 metres away.

After the shutters go down for the last time on the existing outlet at 5.30pm on Monday, March 9, it will re-open in Station Road Convenience Store at 1pm the following day.

The two modern, open plan tills will function from 6.30am to 10pm on weekdays and 7am to 10pm at the weekend – 61½ hours more than at present.

Will Russell, the Post Office’s regional network manager, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Taunton and we’re confident this new modern branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

“The modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

The move comes as the Government commits to modernising up to 8,000 Post Office branches nationwide and investing in over 3,000 community and outreach branches.

It comes after the main Taunton Post Office moved down the road to its current site within County Stores.
