A BRIDGWATER school has been praised for its work in ensuring vulnerable children make great progress.
Wembdon St George’s Primary School is one of three Somerset schools which have been awarded £1,000 as part of the Pupil Premium Award for 2015.
The award recognises schools in England which have been working hard since 2011 to narrow the gap for disadvantaged children.
Staff have been commended for providing disadvantaged pupils with a good start in life and for preparing them well for secondary school.
Cllr Frances Nicholson, cabinet member for children and families at Somerset County Council, said: “These grants are testament to the hard work, dedication and ambition of the staff team at each school to make sure that all children have the best start to life, regardless of their background.
“I would like to congratulate and thank staff, governors, parents and pupils at each of these schools for their success in narrowing the gap and the difference that they are making.”
Head teacher, the Rev Dave Hatrey, said: “St George’s is delighted that the excellent work that the school has done has been recognised. Both the children and the staff are to be congratulated for all they have achieved.”
