SEVERAL people helped donate a total of £1,629.17 last week to the Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE) charity to equip the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital.

Among the donations were £32 from the Monument Proshare Social Club; £150 from friends of Christopher Stanilands following his drinks party in Crowcombe; and £350 from the West Monkton Carol Singers following a concert.

Collections of 5p coins raised £3.95 from Pauline Burt; £5 from the New Horizon Singers; and £6 from Gwen Knight.

The collection pot at Rumwell Farm Shop contained £8.39; £88.08, including £33.85 in 5ps, came from Teare's Newsagents, Wellington; there was £142.20 from Wellington Aqua Social Club through a Christmas raffle; and £20 from Mr and Mrs D. Hayman, of Wellington, in lieu of sending Christmas cards.

Pamela Jarvis contributed £20 as she was unable to attend a carol concert at Taunton School International, in Kingston St Mary; Jean Manley and friends gave £22.90 in 5ps; Pam Earl handed over £2.10 in 5ps; and there was £33.30 in 5ps from Andrew and Tina Potter, family and friends.

The £300 from the Coastline Singers was raised through singing events throughout the year; £100 in 5ps came from Angela Sizer and friends, of Minehead; £30 was from Miss T. A. Knight; there was a £100 donation from Sylvia Woodgate; and £215.25 from the Beacon Centre included £185.60 in 5ps.

The total raised since the Gazette linked up with SURE now stands at £496,273.86.
