A YOUNG mum moved to tears by the tragic death of a toddler from cancer is calling on people in Taunton to help save lives.

Becki Robertshaw wants to get as many people as possible to register as potential stem cell donors at an event in the town this month.

The procedure, which takes less than ten minutes, is painless and simply involves a cotton bud being wiped around the inside of your cheek.

Becki, who lives in Holway, is hosting the session in conjunction with Delete Blood Cancer UK at North Street Church from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, January 24.

She was inspired by two-year-old Margot Martini, from Essington, in the Midlands, who died in October after a long battle with blood cancer.

“The reason I’ve decided to do this is because of a beautiful little girl who sadly lost her battle with blood cancer,” said Becki, who has a healthy son, Perry, the same age as Margot.

“Margot lost her life, but there are thousands of other adults and children who are desperately seeking stem cell transplants in order to live – we can make a difference and save a life.”

Several people have already agreed to attend the event in Taunton, including Margot’s dad, Yaser, and other family members.

There will also be a raffle, with prizes donated by local businesses, in support of Delete Blood Cancer UK.

“Margot’s little face stuck in my mind when I read about her in a national newspaper and a lot of people in Taunton felt the same and have registered as potential donors as a result,” said Becki.
