THE landlord of the flood-hit King Alfred pub in Burrowbridge appeared on national television to show his appreciation of one man’s unstinting support during last winter’s crisis.

James Winkworth nominated Ravi Singh from Langley, Berkshire, to appear on ITV’s Surprise Surprise show after he and his charity workers travelled to Burrowbridge to help with the flood relief efforts in March.

James said: “We managed to keep it from him right until he was in the studio. We’d told him we were going to the studio to film a documentary on flooding and so he had no idea until he saw Holly Willoughby.”

Mr Singh, chief executive of the humanitarian charity Kahlsa Aid, had contacted the pub and offered to help when he saw James on the news during the flooding.

James said: “We got a call from this guy asking what he could do to help and so we just told him we could do with some hand sanitiser and didn’t really think too much of it.

“The next day Ravi turns up with the rest of his charity workers from Khalsa Aid and we just couldn’t believe it.

“They stayed for eight days helping out and we really couldn’t thank them enough.”
