POLICE are appealing for witnesses after thieves stole Christmas presents from the home of an 81-year-old woman in Bridgwater.

The burglary happened between 10.30pm on Friday, December 19 and 7am the following morning.

The thieves took two bags and a box containing 19 wrapped presents, from under the Christmas tree which was in the conservatory of the woman’s home in the Somerville Way / Alderney Road area of town.

Neighbourhood PC Chris Walls said: “This is a really mean-spirited crime. We have carried out a security survey and her locks have already been changed.

“I’m sure on Friday night there would have been many people coming home from a night out or taxi drivers dropping off fares.

“I would ask anyone who may have seen something which could help our enquiries to contact us online or by calling 101 quoting reference 132264/14.”
