MEGAN Butler’s family and friends will have to forgive her if their Christmas presents look like they were wrapped in a bit of a hurry this year.

Because while most of us have been out shopping for our loved ones, Megan, 17, from Taunton, has been buying gifts for cats and dogs instead.

Animal lover Megan visited St Giles Kennels and Cattery, in Wrantage, today, to hand over a selection of gifts she had bought for the animals being cared for there.

Megan said she had wanted to help St Giles since the summer, when she and her family took home border collie Buddy, a rescue dog being looked after by Dogs 4 Adoption, the rescue centre based at the kennels.

Megan told the County Gazette: “Buddy has now got a loving home and is having a nice Christmas, but there are all these dogs at St Giles that haven’t yet found a loving home and I wanted to do something for them.”

Megan, who works full time at Clarks shoe shop in Taunton, has been spending her wages on nice presents for the animals.

She said: “I went to Asda and bought them some really nice stuff, including food and toys.

“I’ve told my family and friends about it and they think it’s a really nice thing to do.”

But speaking this morning, Megan said: “I haven’t even bought anything for my family and friends yet.”

Megan hopes to forge a career working with animals, and is applying to study animal health and welfare at Bridgwater College.
