THE Green Party has announced its candidate for the Bridgwater and West Somerset seat in next year’s General Election. Julie Harvey-Smith, who lives near Williton, has been selected to fight to become the area’s next MP.

She said: “I am standing because I care passionately about our future.

“I stand as a sensible alternative to the corporate greed agenda of the old parties, who all seem to have turned their backs on us.

“The green philosophy of working with people and nature rather than against, makes perfect sense to me.

“I believe in listening to people's concerns and look forward to meeting as many people as possible in the course of the next few months.”

The chair of the Bridgwater and West Somerset Green Party David Taylor says: “Earlier this year Molly Scott Cato was elected the first Green Party MEP in the South West.

“All recent polls show the Green vote is holding up well, and the independent website www.voteforpolicies.org.uk shows a very high proportion of voters are in agreement with the main Green Party policies.

“This is not surprising as the Green Party is the only political party with a consistent anti-austerity message and a positive economic and social vision for a fair and sustainable future.”
