AN elderly couple shaken up in a motorway accident want to track down a Good Samaritan who went to their assistance.

They want to thank the mystery man who went out of his way to look after them and drive them over 100 miles home after their car rolled over and ended up on its roof.

Colin and Elaine Jenkin were just about to hire a taxi home to Pitsford Hill, near Wiveliscombe, after they were stranded at Strensham Services, Tewkesbury, beside the M5.

Their daughter, Sarah Fiddell, said: “Dad was driving with mum up to the Good Food Show in Birmingham when he felt something under the wheel, swerved and the car turned over.

“They were stuck in the car upside down on the hard shoulder and a lorry driver stopped and helped them out before the emergency services took them to the service station and left them there.

“They went into WH Smith to get a number for a taxi, but a man working on a short con¬ tract for Roadchef overheard and said he lived in Taunton and if they waited half an hour while he finished his shift, then he’d drive them home.”

Having arrived back in Taunton, the man then carried on to drop them at their front door.

Mr and Mrs Jenkin were so “disorientated” by the accident that they forgot to ask his name – all they can remember is that his wife works at Butlin’s, in Minehead.

Retired service engineer Mr Jenkin, 78, who suffered broken ribs in the incident last Wednesday, said: “He was absolutely marvellous and we just want to say thank you for doing such a lovely thing. It restores your faith in humans.”

Mrs Jenkin, 76, who used to be a social worker, suffered minor bruises – she said: “We couldn’t believe how lucky we were – not only getting out of the car, but it was just chance that we were left at the service station and this man was working there.”
