FAMILIES enjoyed learning new skills thanks to activities organised by a Bridgwater community centre.

Children and their parents enjoyed a cooking day at Victoria Park Community Centre which focussed on passing on some essential tips on cooking on a tight budget as well as providing a fun event where residents could socialise.

County Cllr Ann Bown has been so impressed by the work of the centre she has donated £1,500 towards future events from her county council grant which goes towards projects which boost health and well-being.

She said: “I think this is a good project which really helps people cook on a budget and still stay healthy which is why I think it promotes health and wellbeing which is important in this community.

“My money will go towards helping them in the future.”

Community development worker Jacqui Creedy said: “We hold a lot of events for families where they can learn new things such as cooking.

It means they can get to grips with healthy recipes and therefore means children get introduced to more healthy meals with vegetables.

“There was limited space on this course as we only had one cooker but we hope to hold future events thanks to the grant Ann has given us.

We are grateful for her support.”
