POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 80-year-old man was left with life threatening injuries in hospital after being hit by a car last week.

Emergency services were called to Brook Street in Cannington at around 7.15am last Wednesday (November 19) to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

The victim was initially taken to Musgrove Park Hospital with serious head and leg injuries but was transferred to Southmead Hospital that night.

The man is described as being in a critical but stable condition with life threatening injuries.

The female driver of the blue Mazda Tamura was treated at the scene for shock.

Brook Street was closed by police between Fore Street and East Street and the A39 for many hours before being reopened at 12 noon.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: “Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact PC Richard Hignett at the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.”
