DUNKERY Pre-School, in Cutcombe, has been graded as “Good” in its latest Ofsted inspection report.

The report was carried out on October 20 and has highlighted the fact that the nursery is continuing its hard work in providing a quality standard of teaching.

The inspection found that the children at the nursery develop “strong bonds” with the staff, and as a result, they are “confident and happy, and show good levels of self-esteem”.

The report also praised the staff for their “good leadership and management” and the “effectiveness” of the key-person system established at the nursery – where a each member of staff is assigned to specific children to help them learn and identify their particular learning needs – which Ofsted has recognised as preparing the children well for the transition to school.

“We are really pleased with the results,” said Cassie Sheasby, chairperson of Dunkery Pre- School.

“We are such a small setting in the middle of Exmoor and not as big as others locally, but we are so proud!”

The areas that have been recommended by Ofsted for improvement is the need for “consistency” in providing parents with information about how they can support their children’s learning at home.

Cassie said: “We have already had a meeting to discuss ways in which we are going to improve the communication between us and the parents, and will be putting these in place as soon as possible.”

Dunkery Pre-School is based in Wheddon Cross and has established links with Cutcombe Church of England Voluntary Controlled First School in Wheddon Cross.

At the time of the inspection, there were 11 children registered at the nursery.

The nursery is run by a voluntary committee and supports children with special educational needs and or disabilities.
