THE Holyrood Academy Choir is singing for joy after making it through to the finals of a carol competition.

More than 50 students from years 7 to 13 took part in the first round of heats in the Grand Pier Christmas Carol Competition hosted by the Grand Pier at Weston.

And they battled off competition from 20 other schools to win one of the two places in the final.

Andrew Gilham on piano and Trevor Lloyd-Jones, conducting, have worked hard to prepare two Christmas Carols to sing before a judging panel.

Grand Pier events manager Laura Bloomfield said: “There was a very high standard of choirs this year but Holyrood Academy was really amazing.”

The choristers will now compete in the grand final on Monday, December 1, in the Grand Hall on the pier.

They will compete for the chance to take part in a choir showcase at Wells Cathedral on Monday, December 8.
