BRIDGWATER people gathered at the war memorial in King Square on Sunday to pay their respects to Britain’s fallen heroes.

A two-minute silence was held at 11am to remember the brave men and women who have fought and died for their country over the years.

This year’s service was of particular importance as it marked 100 years since the start of the First World War.

The Mayor of Bridgwater, Steve Austen, laid a wreath at the base of the war memorial in King Square, along with the chairman of Sedgemoor District Council, Peter Downing, and Bridgwater MP Ian Liddell- Grainger.

A parade then took the congregation up to St Mary’s Church for a full church service led by the Archdeacon of Taunton, the Ven John Reed.
