TALENTED actress Cathy Vicarage, who attends King’s College, Taunton, won the Phoebe Rees ‘Best Female in a Cameo Role’ prize at the Somerset Fellowship of Drama awards in October.
Cathy has been involved in several amateur dramatic groups, but over the past year has had to be more selective to fit in with her school commitments.
This year she has performed with Taunton Thespians, playing a female maid and a male tailor – the latter role being the one that secured her the Phoebe Rees award.
A school spokesman said: “It is worth pointing out that Cathy only had an eight-minute window in which to ‘transform’ from one character to the other, so to win the award with very little time to prepare was a great achievement.”
Cathy’s mum Emma Vicarage said: “Winners of the Phoebe Rees award receive a trophy with their name engraved on it and Cathy’s name will now appear alongside some terrific actresses.
“We suspect that it has never gone to someone of her age before. Indeed, the people we spoke with could not recall this having been the case, so it made the award even more special.”
