BUSINESSES in the Bridgwater area are continuing to celebrate their success in the Mercury-backed 2014 Somerset Business Awards.

As reported last week, around 350 guests attended the awards ceremony held at Westland Conference and Leisure Centre in Yeovil.

The awards, run by Somerset Chamber of Commerce, mark their tenth anniversary this year.

Among the winners were C2 Safety, of Spaxton, who won the Business of the Year 1-10 employees category, while Berry and Escott Engineering, (Business of the year 26-50 employees), and Something Different (International Trade Award), both of Bridgwater, collected runners-up awards.

Southwest Digital Systems, of Edington, was a runner-up in the Service Excellence Award and 1610, which operates leisure centres around the county, including the one at Chilton Trinity, won the Skills for Growth Award.

The finalists were filmed by the media students from Bridgwater College.

David Griffin, managing partner of main sponsors Albert Goodman, said: “The variety and enthusiasm of Somerset businesses never fails to amaze me and I am always excited by the quality of business in Somerset.

“The Somerset Business Awards helps to recognise outstanding performance and moving forward, we need to think about the next generation and the education of our colleagues – we are all responsible of creating the entrepreneurs of the future.”
