DANESFIELD School in Williton remembered much-loved staff member, Ann Hutchinson with a fundraising cross country run around its grounds.

The school raised £600 for the Down’s Syndrome Association, for whom Ann was an avid fundraiser and a trustee for six years.

Ann was a specialist science coordinator at the school and had previously worked as a teacher and governor for a number of years.

Each tutor group competed in the race to win a trophy and the competition will now be an annual event. Ann’s husband, Simon, visited the school to present the award.

Simon also unveiled a plaque and photo that has been put up in the school, as a reminder to pupils and staff of someone they all found to be positive and inspiring.

Ann, of West Quantoxhead, died suddenly in August this year, aged 58.

She had been married to Simon for 37 years and had three children – Andrew, Rachael and Michael.

She loved the outdoors and was a dedicated member of Minehead Running Club.

At the school Ann took part in many extra-curricular activities including cricket, athletics, running events and camping trips.

She was a keen rugby supporter and travelled all over the world with Simon to watch matches.

The pair had also trekked in the Himalayas and Ann had successfully taken on the challenge of trekking Mount Kilimanjaro a few years ago.

Nigel Johnson, head teacher at Danesfield, said: “Ann had a huge impact on Danesfield over the ten-plus years she worked here, as a teacher, governor and our specialist science co-ordinator.

"She was liked by pupils, staff and parents.”

The staff have also continued Ann’s long tradition of raising money for the Down’s Syndrome Association by making Christmas cakes and selling them.
