A FIRE alarm called a halt to Joe Brown’s concert at the Regal Theatre in Minehead on Sunday.

The rock ’n’ roll legend (pictured) and his five-piece band were forced to end their set when a fire alarm was set off in Poundland, located beneath the theatre.

The fire alarm system in the theatre building is linked to the shops beneath it and as a result the show had to be abandoned after just 25 minutes with the capacity audience being evacuated.

“The evacuation went very smoothly,” said Lewis Linton, spokesman for the Regal Theatre.

“We’ve never had to conduct a live fire evacuation before so we are very pleased as to how it went.

"As for the concert, it was very frustrating.”

By the time the alarm had been deactivated, the decision had been made to abandon the concert.

Joe Brown has promised to return to Minehead on a date yet to be established to honour ticket sales.

People who are not from the area and who would be unlikely to see the concert have had their tickets refunded.
