A BURNHAM mum has been shortlisted for a national award after being selected from thousands of entrants.

Sue Stevens, 71, has made it down to the final few of the Tesco Mum of the Year Awards 2015.

The mum of three and grandmother of six has dedicated more than 30 years of her life to raising funds for children in Kenya through various means in her home town of Burnham.

Speaking to the Weekly News Sue said: “It’s a little bit overwhelming to be honest.

“I was so surprised to find out I’d been nominated because I’ve been fundraising for so long.”

For the past 16 years Sue has been involved with the charity, Educate the Kids, to help to feed, clothe and educate children in one of the poorest regions in Kenya, Mombasa.

She makes regular trips to Kenya taking clothes and goods that she has collected and sorted herself and believes seeing the children that benefit is what keeps her involved She continued: “It is hard work but I chose to do it and really my reward is seeing the children when I go over to visit and knowing that I’m doing my bit.”
