WORK to construct a new roundabout in Bridgwater began yesterday, meaning road closures will affect motorists for the next six months.
Marsh Lane was closed to allow road improvements to start, as part of the Colley Lane Southern Access Road scheme to construct a new carriageway in Bridgwater to provide access into the Colley Lane Industrial Estate from the South.
The new road will run from Parrett Way to Marsh Lane with the new roundabout to be built at the existing Marsh Lane junction with Showground Road.
The £8 million proposal will provide a link for heavy goods vehicles to gain access to the Colley Lane Industrial Estate from junction 24 of the M5.
The new roundabout is one of the first steps in the improvement plans which involve the construction of a new bridge over the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal and a new bridge over the River Parrett.
