A SCHEME to protect homes in a Bridgwater street from flooding has been unveiled.

St Saviour’s Avenue was one of the earliest causalities last winter when Durleigh Brook was unable to discharge into the River Parrett because of the height of the tide.

Sedgemoor District Council and Homes in Sedgemoor have jointly funded a £36,000 scheme designed by Phil Perkins, Sedgemoor District Council’s land drainage and coastal protection manager.

It involves the building of brick wall along the boundary between the park and the houses and bungalows in St Saviour’s Avenue, with speciallydesigned metal panels to be utilised to close the pedestrian and vehicular access to the park in times of flood, thus stopping water flowing back into St Saviour’s Avenue.

The £36,000 project, protecting Homes in Somerset bungalows and other houses in St Saviour’s Avenue was jointly funded by Sedgemoor District Council and Government flood grants with contributions from Homes in Sedgemoor.
